Autism Speech and Language provides the Autism Track within the SpeakEasy: Home Speech Therapy application, offering targeted resources for families navigating language development in children with autism and other neurodivergent profiles.

Research indicates that over 75% of autistic children are gestalt language processors (GLPs), which means they often learn language in larger chunks or phrases rather than individual words. Understanding these gestalt phrases typically requires contextual knowledge of how and where the child learned them. Such processing styles may also manifest through echolalia—repetitive language that can be challenging to interpret without context.

This platform aims to support parents in facilitating effective communication strategies, with particular attention to gestalt language processors. Key features include:

• Extensive collection of at-home activities designed to enhance communication skills
• A personalized Language Journey with activities customized to your child's current language level
• Educational articles addressing neurodivergence, sensory processing differences, echolalia, and gestalt learning methods
• Sensory modifications tailored to accommodate diverse sensory needs in autistic children

The app is intended for parents or caregivers of children with autism or suspected autism, regardless of age or verbal ability—from nonverbal children to those using full sentences. It is suitable whether or not your child is engaged in professional speech therapy or other support services. The primary purpose of the application is to equip caregivers with practical strategies for implementing at home; it is not an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tool.

The Autism Speech and Language track builds upon the research foundation established by SpeakEasy: Home Speech Therapy, which has engaged over 100,000 families. A 2021 randomized controlled trial demonstrated that parents utilizing SpeakEasy were three times more likely to report improvements in their children's communication within three months.
